Neurologic Consultations
Dr. Andrew Gregory has earned over
700 postgraduate hours of study in the field
of neurology and is board certified by the
American Chiropractic Neurology Board, (ACNB),
the only chiropractic specialty board with full
NOCA/NCCA accreditation. Since becoming board
certified, he has been building a “practice
within the practice” and now sees patients with
various conditions including ADD/ADHD, mild
traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries,
dizziness/vertigo, movement disorders and for
post stroke rehabilitation. Some of these patients
are local, while others are referred for consultation
and co-management by their treating doctor back home.
He has been fortunate to be able to work with
patients from all over New England for a
variety of conditions.
“As chiropractors, there are many
things we can do to help these patients that other
disciplines can’t even come close to doing. Chiropractic
should actually be the first option for many of these
patients, rather than being perceived as an alternative
or last resort.” - Andrew P.T. Gregory, DC, DACNB
Instead of only focusing our history
and examination to find out what’s wrong with the
patient, we also need to find out what’s right with
them. One of the most profound discoveries in neuroscience
has been that our nervous system has the ability to
grow and change based upon the stimulation it receives
from the environment. This process is called plasticity.
The exciting part is that with proper treatment we can
often rehabilitate injured/poorly developed portions of
the nervous system or train other pathways to take over.
By using the sensory and motor systems we can increase
the stimulation of specific portions of the nervous system
and promote plastic changes. The result is that patients
can often regain a degree of function to make their life
more easy or comfortable.
In addition to a comprehensive history
and examination, we offer advanced diagnostic testing
including video electronystagmography (ENG) to help quantify
several brain-based and brainstem reflexes. This testing
provides a window of brain function in the diagnosis and
treatment of many conditions. We utilize a hemispheric
approach to brain function. By specifically directing
treatment to portions of the brain that aren’t as efficient,
we are seeing some amazing results.
Frequent treatment modalities include
vestibular rehabilitation, neuromuscular reeducation,
sensory integration, manipulation, vision therapy,
auditory therapy and exercise rehabilitation.
